The iconic Red deer stag is the largest native deer species in Scotland. Stalking them across the open hill in often changeable weather requires significant stamina, stealth and patience to get the most out of the day.
Even then there is no guarantee of getting a “shootable stag” in your sights. This is where the Glenprosen keepers come into their own, using their understanding of the herds that crisscross the estate during the rutting season, along with their knowledge of the local terrain, to give you the best chance of success.
The day starts with a visit to the rifle range to run through the procedures that will be used between the keeper and the guest while on the hill. At the end of the day, guests often return to the estate’s larder to toast the bag and discuss the day’s highlights. The venison taken from the hill is sold to Highland Game of Dundee.
